We wish you a Merry Chrismas!

Today, as a Christmas treat, lots of students came together to sing some Christmas Carols for the rest of the school. The Christmas songs we sang were: "Jingle Bells",  "We wish you a Merry Christmas", and "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star". Here are the lyrics for the song "We wish you a Merry Christmas"

We wish you a Merry Christmas,
We wish you a merry Christmas,
We wish you a merry Christmas
And a happy new year.

Glad tidings we bring,
To you and your kin,
Good tidings for Christmas
And a happy new year.

Oh bring us a figgy pudding,
Oh bring us a figgy pudding,
Oh bring us a figgy pudding,
And a cup of good cheer.

We wish you a merry Christmas,
We wish you a merry Christmas,
We wish you a merry Christmas,
And a happy new year!

Christmas is often a time to spend with your family and to enjoy delicious food, typical of the season.
Here are some pictures of popular ´Christmas foods´ in the UK.

Dashing through the snow...

This week in school, we have started to learn some English Christmas Carols (villancicos).
Christmas carols are traditional songs, which people sing at Christmastime (la epoca navideƱa) and they usually have a religious, Christmas, or wintertime theme.
Here are the words to one of the Christmas songs we have learned:

JINGLE BELLS

Dashing through the snow
In a one-horse open sleigh,
O'er the fields we go
Laughing all the way.
Bells on bobtails ring,
Making spirits bright.
What fun it is to ride and sing
A sleighing song tonight.

Oh, jingle bells, jingle bells,
Jingle all the way.
Oh, what fun it is to ride
In a one-horse open sleigh.
Jingle bells, jingle bells,
Jingle all the way.
Oh, what fun it is to ride
In a one-horse open sleigh.

Christmastime is a time when people get together with their friends and family, to Eat, Drink and be Merry(feliz)! The most celebrated day in the UK is December 25th, Christmas Day. Children get up early to open presents brought to them by Father Christmas (papa noel) and families get together to eat ´Christmas dinner´.

Chrismas dinner usually consists of roast turkey, roast potatoes, brussel sprouts (repollitos de Bruselas), mashed potatoes (pure de patatas), small sausages cranberry sauce and gravy.
After Christmas dinner, some people watch the Queen of England give her Christmas message on the television. The Queen´s speech is always at 3pm on Christmas Day.

Christmas is coming...

Today is the 1st of December and so we are now in advent (el adviento), the period leading up to Christmas.
In the United Kingdom, as well as in some other countries, the main celebrations for Christmas take place on the 25th December. Advent calendars (calendarios del adviento/de la navidad) are very popular with lots of children and are used to count down the days before christmas. For every day in December, children have to open a ´window´ of their calendar and behind each window, they find a christmas picture, or a chocolate!

The advent calendar is said to have originally been a German invention but is now poular in many countries all over the world.

This Giant advent calendar in Friedrichsfehn, Germany, was the biggest of it´s kind back in 1998!

Next week, in school we will start learning some Christmas songs and Christmas carols (villancicos), in English!
